A survey conducted in 1981 showed trachoma was the second leading cause of preventable blindness in Nepal and active trachoma was endemic in the hills and plains areas. Now pre-validation surveys have now shown the program to have successfully eliminated trachoma as a public health problem in Nepal. Dossier documenting elimination of trachoma as a public health problem was submitted to Ministry of Health.
