- Rapti Eye Hospital
Rapti Eye Hospital was established
in 1986 with the support of
Norwegian Church Aid (NCA),
which was later supported by
NABP since 1998. The Hospital is
situated at Rakchha Chaur, Tulsipur
in Dang district in the mid-western
region of the country. This eye
hospital is providing comprehensive
eye care service to 1.4 million
population of Rapti zone. There are
five districts in Rapti zone including
Dang which are mainly hilly and
mountainous. Under this hospital,
there are three satellite eye care
centres in Rapti zone and one
eye care centre in Bahadurgunj of
Kapilbastu district of Lumbini zone.
The hospital is conducting outreach
activities like surgical and screening
camps in these five districts. Besides
these, it is conducting school
screening, health education, training
to health workers in Dang.

Two separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed on December 5, 2011 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) for providing grant assistance of NRs. 4.42 crores to NNJS for eye care programme in various districts of Nepal during the year 2011-2012. The MOU will cover the cost of conducting over 15,000 cataract surgeries and also provide over 9,300 optical devices to vision impaired children through mobile screening camps to be held in various schools of Nepal as a ‘National Eye Sight Programme’. India will provide additional assistance of NRs. 0.18 crores for conducting 1000 Trachoma surgeries to the NNJS during the year 2011-2012.
